TEDS-A is a national data system of annual admissions to substance abuse treatment facilities, primarily those receiving public funding. Demographic information such as gender, race, ethnicity, education, and employment status, among others, are included in the data. Substances reported in TEDS-A include alcohol, cocaine and crack, marijuana and hashish, heroin, nonprescription methadone, other opiates and synthetics, stimulants, tranquilizers, sedatives, and over-the-counter medications, among others. A sister data system, called TEDS-D, records discharges from treatment facilities.
